CMS Releases New DME Competitive Bidding Payment Info

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced on Oct. 1 the single payment amounts for Round 1 Recompete of the Medicare Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies (DMEPOS) Competitive Bidding Program.

Payment amounts for DME will decrease by a projected 37%, on average, from Medicare’s fee schedule rates across the six categories included in the Round 1 recompete, according to files posted by CMS.

Bid categories for the round were: general home equipment and related supplies and accessories; respiratory equipment and related supplies; standard mobility equipment and related accessories; external infusion pumps and supplies; negative pressure wound therapy pumps and related supplies; and enteral nutrients, equipment, and supplies.

By law, CMS must “recompete” contracts under the DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program at least once every three years.

The Round 1 re-bid contracts will expire on Dec. 31, 2013. Existing payment amounts will be replaced by the new single payment amounts, which will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2013 in the Round 1 Recompete competitive bidding areas.

Access the single payment amounts for all product categories.
