VA Delays Effective Date for new Home Health, Hospice Payment Methodologies

The VA has delayed its effective date for new billing methodology for non-VA home health and hospice providers. Originally scheduled to take effect November 15, the rule has been postponed until April 1, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs has announced.

A rule was proposed February 18, 2010 to change billing methodology for some non-VA inpatient and outpatient health care providers, but there was an exception for implementing those payment methodologies for home health care and hospice providers.

The new rule, now slated to take effect in April, will impact those home health and hospice providers that do not have a negotiated rate with the VA.

The department attributed the delay to issues with systems and administration that did not allow the implementation to happen on time.
