New Nevada Business Connects Home Care and Senior Caregivers

A husband-wife couple with health care care industry experience have opened a new business in Nevada that pairs seniors in need of home care with caregivers of their same age, reports the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Dr. Charles P. Virden, a plastic surgeon with practices in Reno and the Tahoe-Truckee area, along with his wife, Lynnsey Virden, a registered nurse, have become the state’s first franchisees for Seniors Helping Seniors, an intragenerational home care services program that does just as its name implies.

Founded in 1998 by husband-wife pair Philip and Kiran Yocom, the Leesport, Pennsylvania-based Seniors Helping Seniors matches seniors seeking employment in the caregiving field with seniors who require in-home care services to live independently in their own homes.

Caregivers employed by the company assist their charges with a variety of tasks, including light housekeeping, cooking, shopping, mowing the lawn, accompaniment to a doctor’s appoint, among other non-medical services.

The Virdens’ franchise will serve residents in Reno, Lake Tahoe, Gardnerville, Minden, Genoa Lakes and Carson City.
