National home health, hospice and post-acute care provider LHC Group (NASDAQ: LHCG) announced it has entered into a three party home health joint venture with Southeast Alabama Medical Center (SAMC) and Troy Regional Medical Center in the Certificate of Need (CON) state of Alabama. The service area includes seven counties with a population of 415,000.
The latest partnership follows LHC Group’s $10 million acquisition of Life Care Home Health, which added 13 home health agencies across six states to LHC Group’s portfolio. The deal expanded the company’s footprint to 350 locations across 29 states.
“The new partnership will result in improved patient care – helping patients recover in the comfort of their home and preventing costly and avoidable hospital readmissions,” says Keith G. Myers, LHC Group’s chairman and CEO, in a written statement. “LHC Group has a proven track record of successful hospital partnerships that are enhancing post-acute care for patients around the nation.”
Troy Regional Medical Center, based in Troy, Ala., is a 97-bed licensed acute care facility operating under a health care authority board and is fully accredited by The Joint Commission. The facility serves the same seven counties as the home health and employs over 275 staff members. Specialties include orthopedics, women’s health, ENT, podiatry, general surgery, sleep lab, medical detoxification, and pain management with over 100 board certified physicians on staff.
SAMC, based in Dothan, Ala., is a nonprofit community health system operating under a health care authority board and dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of the 600,000 residents of Southeast Alabama, Southwest Georgia and the Florida Panhandle. It is fully accredited in hospital, behavioral health care, home care and laboratory programs by The Joint Commission. SAMC, a 420-bed licensed facility supported by a medical staff of 310 physicians representing virtually every medical specialty, is recognized as one of the largest employers in the region, employing about 2,700.
