Amazon — Home Care Agencies’ Newest Competitor?

E-commerce giant Amazon is launching a new section in the United States, Home Services, where customers can shop for professional help, the company announced Monday.

Services include house cleaning and other household chores, and may present competition for some private-duty home care agencies that provide those services for clients.

At launch, the Amazon Home Services store included more than 2 million service offerings across more than 700 professional services. In addition to house cleaning, professional services include mounting TVs, installing a new garbage disposal, and more.

“With this expansion beyond physical and digital goods, Amazon is now making purchasing professional services as easy as buying products,” Amazon says in a statement. “Amazon Home Services is now available across the country in major U.S. metropolitan areas including New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.”

Selecting a service on Amazon Home Services takes less than 60 seconds, Amazon says.

“Amazon Home Services features handpicked pros offering upfront pricing on pre-packaged services with helpful reviews from customers that have made verified purchases,” the company says, adding that Amazon’s Happiness Guarantee backs all service purchases, so “customers know the job will get done right.”
