Software Company Expands Home Health Tech to Include Hospice

An Austin, Texas-based company specializing in home health software announced yesterday that it has expanded its technology to include hospice services.

Kinnser Hospice, a product of Kinnser Software, includes patient-centered intake and scheduling, comprehensive clinical charting, Medicare billing and many additional tools to help hospices manage labor productivity.

After having been asked countless times why Kinnser could not do for hospice what the company had already been doing for home health, company Founder and President Chris Hester put an end to the questioning with the development of Kinnser Hospice.

“Whether a hospice is struggling with a poor solution or is considering software for the first time, they shouldn’t make a move without seeing the innovation Kinnser will introduce in a few weeks,” Hester said. “They’ll be glad they waited.”

Taking a discovery-based approach in creating the hospice software, Kinnser collaborated with several hospice agencies and consultants during an early access program before making the solution available to the general market later this year.

“We are thrilled to be working so closely with Kinnser to create Kinnser Hospice, a solution we truly believe will help our agency be more efficient and productive,” said Diann Verdugo, RN, clinical supervisor of Sea Crest Hospice—one of the participants in Kinnser’s experimental process.

Demand for hospice care is high, with more than 1.65 million people receiving hospice services annually, according to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization data

With Austin having the nation’s fastest-growing percentage of adults ages 55 to 64—representing a 110% increase from 2000-2010—according to report by the Brookings Institution, developing a software solution designed specifically for hospice was an immediate need for Kinnser as solutions in the past were originally designed for other parts of healthcare and had to be adopted to include hospice.

The Kinnser Hospice product is latest addition to the company’s other home health solutions that aim to increase efficiency and improve patient care.

Kinnser’s VisitVerify solution has been acclaimed within the home health industry for its ability to accurately document caregiver visits and billing practices, also reducing administrative reporting and back office billing by as much as 75%.

In the four months since Kinnser rolled out VisitVerify in April, the company has already captured signatures on over a quarter of a million visits, company product managers told HHCN via telephone.
