The Ensign Group Acquires Los Angeles Home Health Care Agency

The latest in a series of ongoing acquisitions in the home health and hospice sectors this year, California-based company The Ensign Group (Nasdaq:ENSG) has added yet another home health care agency to its growing portfolio of post-acute care operations.

The Mission Viejo, Calif.-based company announced Monday that is has acquired Angeles Home Health Care located in Los Angeles, Calif. for an undisclosed purchase price in cash.

The addition of Angeles Home Health Care adds to The Ensign Group’s portfolio of home health, hospice, skilled nursing, rehabilitative care services, assisted living and urgent care companies.

“Expanding our service offerings to include home health reflects our strategic commitment to establishing the full continuum of post-acute care in the communities we serve,” stated Christopher Christensen, Ensign’s president and CEO. “Our partnership with Angeles reflects our firm commitment to serving the post-acute care needs of Southern Californians, whether that care takes place in our facilities or their homes.”

Established by founder and owner Rita Doll in 1980, Angeles Home Health Care has provided home health services to the Los Angeles community for over three decades.

The acquired company will be operated by Cornerstone Healthcare Inc., Ensign’s home health and hospice operating company.

“We are grateful that Rita has entrusted us with the Angeles legacy,” stated Cornerstone President and CEO Daniel Walker. “For over thirty-four years, Angeles has hired and trained talented caregivers who have provided exceptional, patient-centered home health care in the Los Angeles area. We are excited to build on that legacy, as we work hard to provide life-changing home health services to our patients and their families.”

This year has already been marked by several notable acquisitions from The Ensign Group across various care sectors.

Last month, the company expanded its presence in Colorado by acquiring a hospice company—a market where Cornerstone has operated since 2011.

In April, it acquired several Boise, Idaho-based home health and hospice agencies, and in May announced the acquisition of a 143-unit assisted living community and 59-bed skilled nursing facility in Rosemead, Calif.

The purchase of Angeles Home Health Care brings The Ensign Group’s portfolio to eleven home health agencies and nine hospices, across nine states.
