VITAS Healthcare Appoints New COO

VITAS Healthcare, an end-of-life care provider based in Miami, has named Joel Wherley as chief operating officer. In this role, Wherley reports to VITAS CEO Nick Westfall and oversees the operations of the company’s 44 hospice programs in 14 states, which reach more than 16,300 patients daily.

Wherley has 30 years of experience in health care sales and operations management, eight of them in hospice. He joined VITAS in 2016 as senior vice president of operations, where he led daily operations for the company’s programs in Illinois, Kansas, Missouri and Texas.

Home Care Association of Florida (HCAF) Announces New Board Members

The HCAF recently named its board of directors after an election by members between May 5 and May 19.

Denise Bellville of Comprehensive Home Care was named president; Dennis Heide of Pinnacle Home Healthcare was named vice president; May Ann Knee of Trust USA Home Health was named secretary; Anthony Clarizo of UF Health Shands HomeCare was named treasurer.

Sharon Hanna of 5 Star Consultants was named the representative for District 1; Lisa Caamano of Pinnacle Home Care was named the rep. for District 3; Alina Moser of AMGM Enterprises was confirmed as the rep. for District 5; Lottie Odom of Health First Home Care was named the rep. for District 7; Kimberly Ortiz of FirstLantic Healthcare is the rep. for District 9; Kim Wilkerson of Island Home Care is the rep. for District 11; and the private duty representative is Michelle Rodgers of Health First Private Duty.

AngMar Medical Holdings, Inc. Names New COO 

AngMar Medical Holdings, Inc., a privately-run family company that operates a network of multiple home health agencies in nine states, has named Anthony “Tony” P. Miller as chief operating officer.

In this role, Miller will be responsible for the continued expansion, growth and financial health of all of AngMar Medical Holdings and its affiliated Angels Care Home Health businesses.

Miller joined AngMar in 2013 as vice president of therapy services and soon became the company’s vice president of operations. Prior to AngMar, he served in several roles in the home health industry for eight years, including serving as owner of ABC Therapy Company and a rehab specialist for Amedisys (Nasdaq: AMED).

AngMar is based in Mansfield, Texas. The companies under the AngMar umbrella are known as Angels Care Home Health.

Briggs Healthcare Hires VP of Sales & Business Development

Briggs Healthcare, which has been making a place in the home care space over the last few years, has hired Tim Caver as vice president of sales and business development, digital.

Caver has more than 25 years of experience in health care, including medical devices, diagnostics and health care information technology sales. Prior to joining Briggs, he held leadership roles with Johnson & Johnson, Bayer, Boston Scientific, McKesson and GE Healthcare IT.

He also spent several years helping customers transition to a value-based care environment with Electronic Medical Records and Population Health Management technologies.

EY Names 24Hr HomeCare Founders Entrepreneur of the Year

EY awarded David Allerby, Tyner Brenneman-Slay and Ryan Iwamoto of private duty home care provider 24Hr HomeCare the Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 Award in the consumer services category in Greater Los Angeles.

The award recognizes entrepreneurs who are excelling in areas such as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their business and communities.

The founders were selected by an independent panel of judges, and the award was presented on June 15. As regional winners, the three founders are now eligible for consideration for the Entrepreneur of the Year national program, to be announced in November 2017.

Simione Healthcare Consultants Adds Senior Manager

Simione Healthcare Consultants, a group that provides business solutions for home health and hospice organizations, has hired Cynthia Gibbons, MBA, CHCE, of Woodbridge, Connecticut, as a senior manager in financial consulting to support business improvement for home care and hospice organizations.

Gibbons is a certified home care and hospice executive with more than 25 years in fiscal operations for senior and home-based health care organizations. She has an extensive background in financial management, most recently as national director of finance for home health/hospice/post-acute care at Tenet Health in Dallas. At Tenet, she managed financial operations for eleven agencies, including budget, financial compliance, cost reporting, revenue cycle, evaluation of mergers and acquisitions, and financial reporting.

Between 2005 and 2016 she served in several roles at Masonicare, including as corporate director of financial planning and analysis, administrator of home health and hospice and director of financial operations. She also served as chief financial officer at VNA Services in Hamden, Connecticut. Prior to working in the home health and hospice field, she served in various finance roles in other health care sectors, starting as a Medicare auditor for the intermediary in Connecticut.
