Movers & Shakers: LHC Group’s New Strategy Exec, Compassus Adds Chief Growth Officer

LHC Group Promotes Bruce Greenstein to Chief Strategy Officer

Just a few months after announcing his hire, LHC Group (Nasdaq: LHCG) has promoted Bruce Greenstein to executive vice president and chief strategy and innovation officer.

Greenstein — who previously served as chief technology officer for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services — first joined LHC Group in June to fill the then newly created position of chief innovation and technology officer.

With the added role of chief strategy officer, Greenstein will help lead Lafayette, Louisiana-based LHC Group’s accelerated value-based contracting, accountable care organization (ACO) management company, and alternative payment and delivery model strategies. As part of his initial hiring, LHC Group also stated that Greenstein will help the home health, hospice and personal care services provider in leveraging data, remote monitoring capabilities and medicine in patients’ homes.

“Since joining us this summer, [Greenstein] has already made a difference in helping us accelerate our value-based contracting and ACO strategies,” LHC Group Chairman and CEO Keith Myers said in a statement.

LHC Group is the preferred in-home health care partner for 76 health systems, consisting of 337 leading hospitals around the country, according to the company. With 30 combined ACOs and more than 410,000 attributed lives under its management, LHC Group via Imperium Health is one of the largest ACO management companies in the country.

Prior to his post at HHS, Greenstein served as CEO of Blend Health Insights, as managing director of worldwide health for Microsoft and as a regional president for Quartet Health. Greenstein was also a cabinet member in Louisiana, serving as secretary of the state’s Department of Health and Hospitals.

LHC Group had long “courted” Greenstein even before he landed with HHS, Myers previously told Home Health Care News.

“As the health care delivery system continues to migrate to a value-based system, we are continuing to sculpt a service network to help our existing and future partners and have a direct impact on reducing costs for the Medicare Trust Fund,” Myers said. “We have only just begun to realize the potential of what we have created with our national platform, and with Bruce’s experience and leadership, we look forward to sharing more details on these results in the very near future.”

Compassus Adds Chief Growth Officer

National hospice, palliative and home health care services provider Compassus has added Damien Weston to its executive team. Weston, who previously served in operations and sales leadership positions at Kindred Health Services, joins Compassus as chief growth officer.

Brentwood, Tennessee-based Compassus is a post-acute care company that operates across 140 locations in more than 30 states.

As chief growth officer for Compassus, Weston will focus on increasing awareness of its services, working closely in the areas of sales, direct-to-consumer and marketing. Weston will also work to secure national and regional partnerships.

“Compassus has grown significantly over the past few years to better serve patients and families across the country in need of high-quality end-of-life care,” Jim Deal, CEO of Compassus, said in a statement. “[Weston] will lead our effort to achieve our vision of transforming health care delivery through improving the quality of person-centered, physician-driven and team-based care.”

Prior to his tenure with Kindred, Weston held various leadership positions in long-term care, senior housing and with other post-cute service providers.

Weston’s addition is the latest hiring move by Compassus.

In August, the post-acute care provider announced that Brian Blackburn and Jesse Verni had joined its team as vice president of technology, and vice president of financial planning and analysis, respectively.

AAPACN Taps Tracey Moorhead as President and CEO

The American Association of Post-Acute Care Nursing (AAPACN) has tapped Tracey Moorhead to serve as its new president and CEO. The appointment comes after a six-month national search, according to AAPACN.

In addition to the role of president and CEO, Moorhead will also lead AAPACN’s subsidiary associations, the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination and the American Association of Directors of Nursing Services.

“As fast as the health care environment is changing, we know that AAPACN needs to keep pace to ensure that the nurses and organizations we represent are always prepared to provide the best possible care for our nation’s elders,” Stephanie Kessler, chair of the AAPACN board of directors, said in a statement. “Tracey’s dedication to the field and expertise in change management make her a great fit for our organization, and we’re excited to watch AAPACN grow under her leadership.”

Moorhead replaces organizational founder Diane Carter, who retired earlier this year. Moorhead will be based in Washington, D.C.

Prior to joining AAPACN, Moorhead most recently served as president and CEO of ElevatingHOME and its subsidiary, the Visiting Nurse Associations of America. Moorhead also served for eight years as president and CEO of the Care Continuum Alliance.
