Home Instead names company vet president

Home Instead Inc. has named its global chief information officer, Jim Hood, as its new president.

Home Instead Inc. is the Omaha, Nebraska-based franchise company that runs Home Instead Senior Care, a provider of in-home care services with over 1,000 independently owned and operated offices worldwide. With more than $1.77 billion in systemwide sales, the franchise company recently earned a spot on the Top 200+ ranking from Franchise Times.

In his role as president, Hood will be responsible for the planning of strategy for the larger Home Instead Senior Care network. He will report to Jeff Huber, who will stay on as CEO.

“Jim has a great appreciation and respect for the franchise owners and their teams who deliver care in local markets,” Huber said in a recent statement. “He also has a deep understanding of the essence of Home Instead and what needs to be done to continuously transform the organization as we move forward.”

Hood has served in a number of roles — such as global solutions architect, vice president of information technology and global chief information officer — during his six years at Home Instead Inc.

In Hood’s more recent role, he spearheaded the development of organizational capabilities.

Encompass Health hires chief human resources officer, adds to board

Anthony Hernandez is joining Encompass Health (NYSE: EHC) as its new chief human resources officer.

Birmingham, Alabama-based Encompass Health maintains a portfolio of 245 home health locations, 82 hospice operations and 133 hospitals.

Hernandez’s appointment to the role is effective Jan. 6, 2020.

“In this role, he will lead the human resources management functions and recruitment initiatives for our more than 41,000 employees,” Mark Tarr, president and CEO of Encompass Health, said in a statement. “His experience will help us continue to set the standard as a leading healthcare employer and will benefit our Company’s growing workforce.”

Prior to joining Encompass Health, Hernandez was executive vice president of human resources for Regions Financial Corp. Before that, he served in human resource leadership roles at companies such as Citigroup and PharMerica.

Encompass Health also made three additions — Greg Carmichael, Patricia Maryland and Terrance Williams — to its board of directors.

In addition to this latest appointment, Carmichael serves as chairman, president and CEO of Fifth Third Bancorp (Nasdaq: FITB).

Prior to this appointment, Maryland served as an executive vice president for Ascension and the president and CEO at Ascension Healthcare.

Previously, Williams was the executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company.

Synzi adds chief technology officer

Virtual care company Synzi has hired Brian Lichtlin as its new chief technology officer.

Lichtlin has over 20 years of health care technology experience. Previously, he was CEO of Advalent Inc. Before that, he served as chief technology officer of MDLIVE Inc.

“Brian joins Synzi at an exciting time as we accelerate our expansion into post-acute care and the home health space,” Lee Horner, CEO of Synzi, said in a statement. “Brian understands our unique value proposition for home health care organizations and shares our vision for delivering innovative and impactful virtual care solutions that improve patient access, engagement and outcomes.”

Synzi’s virtual care platform allows home health providers to communicate with patients and clinicians with HIPAA-compliant secure messaging, text, email and video.
