Senior Helpers Names New COO; SCAN Group Hires First Chief Innovation Officer

Baxter takes over as Senior Helpers’ COO

Senior Helpers has promoted Mari Baxter to the role of chief operations officer.

Baxter first joined Senior Helpers as a field operations manager in 2008, back when the home care franchise company only had 40 locations. As Senior Helpers grew, she took on more responsibility, eventually becoming VP of operations in 2012.

“We are thrilled to elevate Mari to the executive leadership team, and are confident her deep expertise in franchising will continue to bring our company to new operational heights while delivering against our mission to provide the highest quality, in-home senior care available in the marketplace today,” Senior Helpers CEO Peter Ross said in a statement.

Maryland-based Senior Helpers has a national network of more than 300 franchise locations.

The franchiser was acquired by Advocate Aurora Enterprises, a subsidiary of Advocate Aurora Health, earlier this year.

In her new role, Baxter will be responsible for leading the company’s “aggressive” growth trajectory, in addition to strategic planning for future development and external partnerships. Before joining Senior Helpers, Baxter worked in franchise operations with both Huntington Learning Centers and Kiddie Academy.

SCAN hires innovation leader

Scott Weingarten has been named SCAN Group’s first chief innovation officer. SCAN’s holdings include SCAN Health Plan, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage (MA) plans in the U.S.

Weingarten’s first order of business in his new role will be to launch “Welcome Health,” SCAN’s new geriatric primary care medical group, according to the organization.

“Scott Weingarten’s expertise as a physician and his proven track record of driving change and innovation at leading health care systems is the perfect fit for SCAN as we grow, diversify and transform the delivery of health care for older Americans,” Dr. Sachin Jain, president and CEO of SCAN Group and SCAN Health Plan, said in a press release.

Weingarten previously served as the chief clinical transformation officer and a professor of medicine at Cedars-Sinai. He also served as director of Health Services Research at Cedars-Sinai.

“I look forward to working alongside SCAN’s many talented team members, who share my passion for improving the way we care for older adults,” Weingarten said in the release.

Welcome Health is a startup geriatric primary care medical group that will treat older adults through a combination of virtual and in-home visits. The startup is designed to be payer agnostic, serving members of SCAN Health Plan and also other MA plans.

Signify announces C-suite hires

Signify Health. Inc. (NYSE: SGFY) has appointed Sam Pettijohn as chief growth officer and Erin Kelly as chief compliance officer.

Signify is a value-based health care platform that uses advanced analytics and other technology to help coordinate care in the home. The company went public earlier this year.

As chief growth officer, Pettijohn will lead Signify’s continued growth as it expands its suite of services and is market presence. In addition to those duties, he will collaborate with the company’s client success and implementation teams to enhance the customer experience to drive sustainable, long-term growth.

Meanwhile, Kelly will drive the development and implementation of policies and procedures that ensure compliance with regulations, policies and legal requirements. As chief compliance officer, Kelly will also play a key role in enabling sustainable growth by leading the company’s compliance-risk management function.

Pettijohn joins Signify from Cerner Corporation, where he was senior vice president of client relationships. Kelly most recently served as senior legal counsel at CVS Health’s Aetna Inc.

Clover Health expands management team

Clover Health (Nasdaq: CLOV) has named Prabhdeep Singh as chief growth officer. The MA organization and care provider for underserved seniors also named Justin Joseph as chief strategy and development officer.

The two execs join Clover on the heels of the company announcing plans to expand service coverage to 101 new counties across the country, subject to U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approval.

“As Clover expands into new markets, Prab and Justin’s unique experiences at hyper-growth companies will strengthen our efforts considerably,” Vivek Garipalli, CEO and founder of Clover, said in a statement.

Before joining Clover, Singh most recently served as WeWork’s EVP and global head of marketplace. Prior to that, he was a general manager at Uber Eats.

Joseph comes from Palantir, where he worked on commercial strategy, driving global business development across the health care, medical device, life sciences and emerging digital health sectors. Prior to Palantir, Joseph spent 15 years at Deloitte.

With a corporate headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee, Clover manages care for Medicare beneficiaries in 11 states.

Family Home Care of Central Florida introduces new chief nursing officer

Family Home Care of Central Florida has hired Cheri Wells as its chief nursing officer.

Based in Winter Park, Family Home Care of Central Florida is a locally owned and operated home care agency that delivers care to seniors and other individuals throughout the greater Orlando area.

With over four decades of nursing experience, Wells has expertise in neurovascular, cardiovascular, geriatrics and emergency care. The Florida home care agency expects Wells to be an integral part of its senior leadership team moving forward, President and founder Jarod Carter said in a statement.

“We are thrilled to welcome Cheri to the Family Home Care of Central Florida team,” Carter said. “Her knowledge and experience will be key to our growth.”
