TrinityHealth officially acquires MercyOne
TrinityHealth, a faith-based nonprofit health system, has completed its acquisition of MercyOne Health.
The Michigan-based health system agreed to purchase MercyOne in April from CommonSpirit Health, a joint operating agreement between Trinity Health and Catholic Health Initiatives.
“With MercyOne now fully part of Trinity Health, we are a stronger and more unified system that will strengthen MercyOne’s ability to serve our patients, colleagues and communities,” Trinity Health President and CEO Mike Slubowski said in a statement. “Health care providers across the country continue to face unprecedented challenges brought on by the COVID pandemic, but together, we are stronger.”
The Michigan-based Trinity Health employs about 26,000 clinicians in 25 states. Its home health arm — Trinity Health at Home — is a $300 million business and just a portion of Trinity Health’s $20.2 billion organization.
In March, Trinity Health at Home President and CEO Mark McPherson told Home Health Care News the company has plans to be more aggressive in a “hyper-competitive” acquisition marketplace in 2022, particularly in the private-duty space.
MercyOne is an Iowa-based health system with 16 medical centers, 27 affiliate organizations and more than 420 care sites.
The deal includes MercyOne’s hospice, infusion and home care locations. MercyOne will retain its name and brand following the deal’s close.
Canyon Home Care & Hospice acquires Uintah Basin in Utah
Utah-based Canyon Home Health & Hospice has acquired Uintah Home Health and Hospice.
“We are confident that Canyon Home Care & Hospice will offer exemplary, compassionate care,” Uintah Basin Healthcare President and CEO Jim Marshall said in a press release. “We are honored to have provided care to our home health and hospice patients and their loved ones. We wish them the best, and are hopeful that we can accommodate a smooth transition to ensure continued quality, compassionate care.”
Canyon Home Health & Hospice provides community-based home health, hospice, personal and pediatric care services in five western states: Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho and Nevada.
It also offers pharmacy and medical equipment services, but those services will not be included in the Uintah Basin deal.
Uintah Home Health and Hospice was formerly a part of the larger Uintah Basin Healthcare network.
The most recent acquisition is an example of Canyon investing and recognizing the shift to more value-based and home-based care services, the company said in its release. .
Canyon Home Care & Hospice also acquired Thomas G. Dallman, MD, LLC, a physician and internal medicine practice in Bullhead City, Arizona, last week.
Avera@Home announces joint venture with Kore Cares
Avera@Home announced a new joint venture with personal care provider Kore Cares.
Avera@Home is a South Dakota-based home health and hospice provider under the Avera Health umbrella.
Avera Health provides home health, hospice and home medical equipment services primarily in South Dakota as well as areas of Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and North Dakota.
As part of the deal, home health and hospice patients will remain with Avera@Home and the JV is currently focused in South Dakota.
The joint venture’s purpose is to provide services to a wider base of patients while offering diversified types of care and services.
“This is an essential part of the care continuum, especially as these patients are some of our most vulnerable,” Sandy Dieleman, CEO of Avera@Home, said in a statement. “These services are vital in helping patients maintain their independence, especially as more and more of our population wants to age in place.”
Kore Cares has been operating in the Sioux Falls area since 2016 and has been a partner of Avera@Home for several years. In order to provide continuity for patients and referral sources, the joint venture will do business under the Kore Cares name.
“This initiative will have a tremendous impact on our communities,” Kore Cares Co-Founder and Owner Gabrielle Hoing said in a statement. “By expanding access to care in the home, we empower individuals to make decisions about their care that are in line with their goals and priorities.”
The Avera Health system consists of 37 hospitals, 215 primary and specialty care clinics, 40 senior living facilities and home health, hospice and sports and wellness facilities.
Sonas Home Health buys Focus Forward
Sonas Home Health Care, a Florida-based pediatric and skilled health care provider, announced that it has purchased Focus Forward.
Focus Forward is a pediatric home health care provider – also based in Florida – that provides in-home care for medically complex children and infants.
The Dak Group worked as the banker and financial advisor in the deal.
“The founders of Focus Forward Skilled have created a superior company, focused on providing both a high standard of care and strong patient experience while innovating revolutionary solutions for a high-acuity pediatric patient population,” Melvyn Threatt-Peters II, vice president of the Dak Group, said in an announcement. “With this transaction, they will have the opportunity to extend their services to an even broader patient community by gaining a strategic partner to accelerate the company’s growth.”
Executive Home Care acquires Assisted Living Locators
Home care company Executive Home Care has acquired Assisted Living Locators.
Assisted Living Locators is an Arizona-based franchise with the mission of helping seniors find the right living and care services.
The Executive Home Care deal was backed by The Riverside Company, a private equity firm. The deal will allow Executive Home Care to expand the company’s footprint in the senior care space.
“The addition of Assisted Living Locators fits seamlessly with our business philosophy and strategy of making in-home care and assisted living options readily available for anyone that may need it,” Executive Home Care CEO Tim Hadley said in an announcement. “Both Executive Home Care and Assisted Living Locators are passionate about helping our senior citizens continue to live their lives comfortably, freely and safely. Together, our teams are looking forward to working hand-in-hand to fulfill that.”
Executive Home Care is a New Jersey-based home care provider with 20 locations spread across the Northeast and Florida.
Executive Home Care will take over all 140 franchises in 36 states under the Assisted Living Locators umbrella.
