AccentCare Forms JV With Memorial Hermann, Executing On Its Health System-Focused Strategy

AccentCare – one of the largest providers of home health and hospice in the country – has formed a new joint venture with Memorial Hermann Health System.

The partnership will “greatly expand access to care in the home throughout the greater Houston area,” according to a Monday press release.

Specifically, the JV will combine the two agencies formerly known as Texas Home Health and Season Hospice & Palliative Care, as well as Memorial Hermann, into one home-based care entity. The agreement was finalized on April 1.

“We are two award-winning health care organizations, rising to today’s health care challenges and joining together to become even better,” AccentCare CEO Steve Rodgers said in a press release. “This partnership with Memorial Hermann throws down the gauntlet for what home-based health care can aspire to be in South Texas.”

The Dallas-based Accentcare is a provider of home health, hospice, palliative care and care management services. As part of its network, the company has 30,000 employees that deliver care in more than 250 locations across 30 states and the District of Columbia. In total, it cares for more than 210,000 individuals.

As a joint entity managed by AccentCare, the new business venture will be the largest provider of in-home health care services in South Texas, according to the release. At the beginning of 2022, AccentCare announced a network-wide rebrand to get all of the organizations underneath its umbrella under one name.

“We’re excited to continue our history of transformative care by partnering with AccentCare,” Teal Holden, the SVP of ambulatory and post-acute care services for Memorial Hermann, said in the press release. “Home-based care is a setting that is becoming increasingly important. By joining with a national and local leader like AccentCare, we will significantly advance our capability to both innovate and optimize care in the home-based care setting.”

On its end, Memorial Hermann has a network comprised of 6,700 affiliated physicians, 31,000 employees, 260 care delivery sites, 17 hospitals and an accountable care organization.

AccentCare recently told Home Health Care News how important hospital partnerships were to its strategy moving forward.

“Our focus right now, and where we’re seeing the majority of our activity, is continuing the expansion of our joint venture strategy,” Rodgers said in February. “Coming in and creating partnerships with hospital-based assets is transforming marketplaces for us.”

The JV with Memorial Hermann is a major step in that strategic direction.

“At this point, we’ve got a large home health business, a large hospice business, and a large personal attendant business,” Rodgers continued. “Now, we’re really looking at, in each of these major MSAs, how do we actually create those anchor partnerships with these large health systems? Meaning partnerships that allow us to create sustainable growth within those marketplaces — but do it in a way that we actually feel we can deliver the best care.”
