The home care veteran Jeff Bevis is taking on a new challenge as CEO of Concierge Care, a nurse registry platform.
A co-founder of FirstLight Home Care and most recently the COO of Caring Senior Service, Bevis has been in home care franchising for nearly two decades. Now, he’s taking the helm of Concierge Care, where caregivers won’t be working for his company, but with them instead.
“It’s a nurse registry model, so we do not provide care directly, nor do we employ the caregivers directly. We are a referral service,” Bevis told Home Health Care News. “There’s a distinct difference, because the caregivers we’re referring clients to are 1099.”
Based in Jacksonville, Concierge Care has 14 locations across Northern Florida. It is privately held, and was originally founded by Nancy Ralston.
One of the attractions of the company for Bevis was the fact that it was privately held, with plenty of room to grow.
“I think that’s one of the upsides, not that it’s a bad thing to be private equity-owned, I’ve worked in that environment before,” he said. “But I think the fact this is privately held is really another indication of just how much growth and potential I see there over the next five to seven years, if not longer.”
The caregivers that contract with Concierge Care provide non-medical home care for seniors. They go through a level-two background check prior to joining the company’s network.
“It’s a very high-quality, high-focus referral service business,” Bevis said. “And I was just really impressed with Nancy and the company’s focus on quality and trying to serve more seniors in a more cost-effective way.”
The goal is to grow the nurse registry model further across the Florida market, firstly. Then, Bevis would also like to foster more referral relationships on a regional basis. The nurse registry model is somewhat well known, but not nearly ubiquitously understood – in Florida or across the country. There’s an opportunity there, Bevis believes, to further educate seniors and their families on the benefits of the model.
There’s also room to add service lines, too. Care management and care coordination are two areas that are top of mind for the company, as well as forward-thinking, in-home technology solutions for the client base.
While Bevis still loves the franchise model, he’s looking forward to the break from persuading franchisees on new ideas and concepts.
“I’ll take a lot of my skills and experience in the franchising world and adapt those to the nurse registry model,” he said. “I don’t want to make it sound like it’s going to be a cake walk, but I think it’ll be a bit less complicated because we don’t have that third-party franchisee relationship as a part of everything we do.”
